Lurk 'n' Load

Is role-flipping mid-game a functional mechanic?

Lurk ‘n’ Load is a free browser hide-and-seek game for 2 to 8 friends, and the next prototype after Sort a Pile. The name is a play on “lock and load”. The full write-up comes a little later.

What is it?

One player is the seeker: faster than everyone else, melee only, and hunting a lobby of friends. Everyone else hides while scavenging weapon parts scattered around the map. Collect enough, build the Scavengun, and the roles flip: the seeker has to hide, and the hiders get two shots to land.

Hiders win by hitting the seeker. The seeker wins by catching every hider once the 4-minute clock runs out and overtime begins.

How do you play it?

Everyone plays in first person, in private lobbies joined with a 5-character room code. There is no matchmaking, and the host can add bots. It runs in the browser on itch, with on-screen controls on touch screens.
